Dianella Secondary College Named Finalist in the 2026 WA Education Awards

Dianella Secondary College is proud to once again be recognised as a finalist in the WA Education Awards for Excellence in Cultural Responsiveness.

Following our finalist recognition in the 2025 WA Education Awards, this year’s nomination reflects our continued journey towards embedding Aboriginal perspectives, knowledge and culture across our College community. The recognition acknowledges the ongoing work of our staff, students, families, Elders and community partners in creating an environment where culture, identity and belonging are valued.

The Department of Education announced the 2026 finalists on 2 September, with Dianella Secondary College named alongside Djidi Djidi Aboriginal School, Governor Stirling Senior High School and Ocean Road Primary School in the Excellence in Cultural Responsiveness category. Continuing the Journey

Our cultural responsiveness work continues to grow each year. While initiatives such as Dookerniny Garbala (Late Afternoon Cooking) and Wariny Marrakool (Making with Hands) Art Club remain as embedded parts of our College, we have continued to develop opportunities for students to engage with culture, community and Country in meaningful and practical ways.

One of the most significant developments has been the Maladjiny Dandjoo (Growing Together) Community Garden. The garden provides a space where students can learn about Aboriginal perspectives on Country, sustainability, native plants and connection to place, while working together to care for and develop a shared community space.

The project has also strengthened connections across our College and with our community partners, creating opportunities for students, staff and external organisations to learn and work together. Through these partnerships, Maladjiny Dandjoo provides a shared space where culture, sustainability, connection to Country and collaboration come together.
