Dianella Secondary College welcomed more than 110 guests to its National Reconciliation Week Virtual Community Breakfast, bringing together students, families, community organisations, education partners, and local leaders in celebration of this year’s National Reconciliation Week theme, “ALL IN.” The event provided an opportunity for the college community to come together in the spirit of reconciliation before joining the official National Reconciliation Week livestream.
Special guests included representatives from the Department of Education North Metropolitan Education Region, the City of Stirling, the Dianella Education Precinct School Board, and a wide range of community partners, including the Aboriginal Legal Service of Western Australia, Woolworths Dianella, Bunnings, The Smith Family, Child and Adolescent Mental Health Services (CAMHS), Midn Marr Dreaming, Yorgum Healing Services, Water Corporation, Foodbank WA, Rio Tinto, Curtin University, North Metropolitan TAFE, Rotary Club of Matilda Bay, Western Power, and neighbouring schools. Families, friends of participating students, and staff from the Dianella Education Precinct also attended the celebration.
Guests enjoyed an extensive breakfast prepared by the Dookerniny Garbala Cooking Club with the support of Chef Carlo and Mrs Lafitte. The menu showcased a variety of sweet and savoury dishes featuring native Australian ingredients. The event also featured fundraising items created by the Wariny Marrakool (Making with Hands) Club and displays of student artwork celebrating Aboriginal culture and identity.
Proceedings commenced with a welcome from Principal Nikki Reilly, followed by an address from special guest Renarta Coyne, who spoke about the importance of continuing to work together towards reconciliation. Students then performed a selection of songs, including a powerful rendition of Beds Are Burning by Midnight Oil, before guests joined the national livestream.
