Year 8 STEM students officially commenced their participation in the IGNIS Mission Internship Program by attending the launch event hosted by Edith Cowan University. Students are now recognised as student interns supporting the IGNIS Mission, a landmark Australian–United States collaboration with NASA investigating lightning and fire through research conducted on the ground, in the air, and from space.
During the launch, students participated in presentations from leading researchers and industry experts, while also taking part in workshops focused on media skills and resilience. Throughout the year, the internship program will provide students with authentic STEM learning experiences, exposing them to real-world scientific research, problem-solving, teamwork, and communication while contributing to the work of scientists and engineers involved in the mission.
