Humanities

The Humanities Learning Area provides students with a holistic approach to the study of humanity in all of its diverse nature. Through the subjects of Languages, Business Management and Enterprise, Career and Enterprise, Economics, Geography, History and Politics and Law (Civics) students acquire a greater knowledge and understanding of the diversity of the human experience. Students are encouraged to view the World in all of its diversity as a positive contribution to the development of a civilised society.

Lower College

Lower College syllabus is based upon the requirements of the ‘National Curriculum’ for Years 7 to Year 10 which provides a broad range of disciplines.

Some of the courses of study focus on Civics and Citizenship, Economics, Geography or History. Students will gain the knowledge and skills in order to understand how different political systems work, how our history can be interpreted through many different perspectives and the importance of our environment.

With this wide scope, students can interact and be engaged in many different hands-on activities, discuss and interpret worldwide issues and those facing Australian society. These programs are designed to help and encourage students to become leaders and citizens of a fast paced and changing world.

Senior College

The study of Career & Enterprise, Geography, History and Politics & Law is available for students to consider. Business Management & Enterprise and Career & Enterprise are General courses with a curriculum that is designed to provide students with an insight into the world of work and business. The acquisition of an essential ‘skill’ set that helps them to navigate through the complexities of the work environment and business world are taught.

Politics & Law, Geography and History are ATAR subjects that provide a pathway to University entrance. The curriculum for all of these subjects is designed to complement prerequisite requirements for a variety of university degrees. All of these subjects contribute to a student’s total ATAR score.

HASS students have the ability to use technology that best prepares them for a changing and challenging world.

Excursions throughout the school year allow students to become better aware of their social obligations. Students participate in a range of excursions, providing an opportunity for students to apply their knowledge and delve deeper into a greater understanding of the world we live in.
